Clinical Nurse Specialist in Dermatology RGN RSCN

Heulwen has worked as a Paediatric Nurse in South Wales Hospitals for over twenty years and has gained extensive experience in acute paediatric medicine and oncology. She developed the post of Children’s Eczema Nurse in Llandough Hospital in 1993, and in 1995 moved to the Royal Gwent Hospital where she became particularly interested in the field of paediatric dermatology. She became the first Clinical Nurse Specialist in Paediatric Dermatology in Wales, and is one of a small number of nurses who hold qualifications in both paediatrics and dermatology. She has developed a service in South Wales that is widely respected, and has a particular interest in eczema and child protection.

Heulwen has written a number of articles on both eczema management and child protection in dermatology. She teaches on both subjects, and general paediatric dermatology to practice nurses, health visitors, medical students and doctors, and is a regular speaker on study days in South Wales and further afield, including the Diploma of Dermatology courses for both nurses and GPs. She is an independent nurse prescriber.
